A personal perspective from Tim Newman ahead of SCTE TechExpo
Every year, SCTE TechExpo represents more than just another industry event on my calendar. It is the place where the broadband industry comes together to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and discuss the technologies that will define the future of connectivity. As someone focused on product strategy, marketing, and innovation within the broadband ecosystem, TechExpo is where vision becomes reality.
What makes SCTE unique is the concentration of expertise. Engineers, operators, manufacturers, technology partners, and industry leaders gather with a common goal: building better networks. The conversations on the show floor are often as valuable as the formal sessions. A quick discussion can uncover a new market need, reveal an emerging technology trend, or spark an idea that shapes a future product roadmap.
For me personally, the event is an opportunity to validate the direction of our industry. This year, topics such as Distributed Access Architecture, DOCSIS 4.0 evolution, network automation, AI-driven operations, fiber expansion, and energy-efficient network design continue to dominate discussions. These trends directly influence how we think about broadband infrastructure and how companies like ACI deliver value to operators worldwide.
SCTE is also a reminder that innovation is a team sport. Some of the most meaningful moments come from reconnecting with customers, partners, colleagues, and friends across the industry. Relationships built over years of collaboration often lead to the next opportunity, partnership, or breakthrough idea.
While the latest technology always draws attention, one of the highlights of every SCTE TechExpo for me is seeing familiar faces from across the industry. Whether it is reconnecting with colleagues I have worked with throughout my nearly 30 years in the industry, sharing stories with customers, or meeting new people entering our field, these personal interactions remind me why I enjoy being part of the broadband community. The relationships built over the years are every bit as important as the technology showcased on the exhibit floor.
One of the things I appreciate most about TechExpo is seeing how quickly technology evolves. Looking across the exhibit hall, you can see the industry’s journey from traditional HFC architectures toward increasingly intelligent, software-driven, and fiber-rich networks. The pace of change is remarkable, and attending SCTE helps ensure we remain connected to both today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities.
As I prepare for this year’s event, I am looking forward to learning from industry experts, sharing ACI’s vision for amplifier and network management innovation, exploring new partnerships, and understanding the challenges operators are working to solve. Every conversation has the potential to uncover new opportunities to improve network performance, simplify operations, and create better customer experiences.
Ultimately, SCTE TechExpo matters to me because it represents the best of our industry: innovation, collaboration, friendship, and a shared commitment to keeping the world connected. It is a chance to step away from daily activities, look ahead to the future, and return with new ideas that can help shape the next generation of broadband networks.
